15-second video project based on this briefing:
2 characters are trying to escape the city on a hi-tech motorbike. A group of mercenaries (private security team/special ops type) working for a multinational company tries to hunt them down, using a software that tracks their location, as well as the other mercenaries on the field.
One of the characters is a hacker suspected of corporate espionage. The other one is the ex-chief of security of that same corporation, apparently gone rogue and helping the hacker escape.
Several units of the security team are mobilized to chase them out, but suddenly the motorbike transponder stops working (the connection is somehow lost) and the bike and the suspects also disappear from the map.
Universe/context:
-30 years into the future
-Advanced technology but somehow relatively realistic
-Software with a corporate/military look
Overall design process:
1. Ideation phase: This step involved searching up images on Pinterest and compiling them together into a mood board.
2. Sketching phase: After compiling the mood board, I took the images with designs that I wanted to include the most, as well as images with color palettes I wanted, and imported them into Photoshop to create a rough collage of what I wanted the interface to look like.
3. Vectors/linework: I imported the Photoshop collage into Illustrator and created vector linework for the screen based directly on the images I compiled together. After creating the vectors, I exported them directly into After Effects as separate layers so that I could animate them.
4. Animation: I created every single animation in After Effects. I created "internal" animations first: these consist of the trackers' moving shapes, the grid rolling out in the first few seconds, and the informational cards popping up and running. I then created the "external" animations, which consisted of the actual movements of the trackers across the screen and the trails behind them.
This project was challenging and it took about 2 months to complete! I learned a lot of new skills in Adobe After Effects in particular; animation, even as short as 15 seconds, takes a lot of effort and patience.
