Solar plexus: a complex system of radiating nerves and ganglia, located in the pit of the stomach, and part of the sympathetic nervous system.

Love: a complex and life-changing feeling and experience that is also often felt in the stomach.

Solar Plexus is a 3-part zine project in which the goal was to explore the feeling of love (and it’s many forms) via creative writing. The outward appearance is a play on words, with the sun, moon, and stars being the central visual theme, each with their own associated emotional theme around love (sun=positive moon=negative, stars=the unexplainable/in-between). I invited others to submit their creative writings as a means of sharing the different views on love and different styles of writing, as well as gathering a public per the guidelines of this project. It was very successful and the contributors are all credited within the pages.
The covers were created using a risograph, which proved to be a challenging medium, as I had to line up pages perfectly with the machine and choose which colors layered best on top of each other to preserve visibility. This was more of a handmade project considering I not only printed the covers with a risograph but also hand-sewed the zines together using string. I wanted this to be handmade to better convey the fragility and tangibility of emotions as showcased throughout the project's writings.
